How I Got My Book on the News!
It was a really cool experience that almost didn’t happen.

“We had a cancellation. Are you able to be on the show tomorrow?”
That was the line that I received in an email when I found out I was going to get to talk about my book on the news!
Let me back up.
A few months ago when I launched my book, The Boy With Horns, my wife shared about it on Facebook. One of her friends reached out and recommended that I email a producer at News 2 and pitch me being on the show. My first response was ‘Um. Ok. I am sure they will want to put me on the news.’ [should be read with heavy sarcasm.] So I didn’t email her right away.
Then after a few weeks, I decided to go ahead and give it a shot. Why not right? So I emailed the producer. Here is what I put in my pitch email:
A short introduction letting them know who I was and what I was emailing about.
A brief overview of the story, its deeper message and how I came up with the story.
A link to a video of me reading the book.
An open invitation to chat.
A picture of myself holding the book.
Then on Wednesday I got the email. Someone had cancelled and they wanted to put me on the air. She complemented me on my email pitch and said she could tell from the photo that I had ‘personality.’ 😅 And that was it!

The next day I drove down to the studio and shot the segment. You can watch the segment here. One of the coolest parts was what happened in the Green Room before the show. I got to meet a kindergarten influencer who bought and shared about my book and a father/son duo who invited me to be on their podcast.
It’s amazing what can happen if you choose to take a risk. You just never know. I know that I can sometimes discount things too early and if I just take a breath, it give my brain a chance to process a little more and not make a rash decision. And sometimes that is all I need.
Next Email: I share pics from my launch party…that happened 2 months after launch. Ha!
