Creating My Plan of Attack
So much to do and so little time…
I have never written, illustrated or published a children’s book. So obviously there is so much that I have to figure out. My first step was writing everything down that I knew…which really wasn’t that much.
That being said, it did help me create a rough timeline of when I thought these things should happen. Obviously it wasn’t perfect and more would need to be added later, but what it did do is help me realize three BIG things:
There is roughly a metric ton of work to be done.
Three months sounds a lot longer than 90 days.
I needed to get my butt in gear!

So I took what I had listed in the January bucket and laid it out day by day. I really had no idea if I would do the things on the day I picked for them, I just needed to get them on the calendar. This act alone got me focused on the next right thing and not get overwhelmed. Because you know how to eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

So I am at the beginning of week 3 and I am firing on all cylinders. 14% of my 14 week adventure is already completed. And I feel good about what I have accomplished so far. I will be sharing more details on each of the following tasks I completed in my upcoming emails, but for now, here is what I have checked off the list so far!
I chose my primary publisher!
I completed the second draft of my manuscript.
I did a storyboard of all the potential pages.
I got to 100 subscribers on this email list!
KEY LEARNING: I also came to the realization that while there is so much that I don’t know, I DON’T have to know everything to publish this kids book successfully. Does that mean it won’t be perfect? Of course! But that’s why I am focused on the journey not just the final product. That’s always where the real gold lies anyway!

Thanks for reading!Kacy
